  1. Take practice tests often.
  2. Recognize the ascending order of difficulty.
  3. If you don’t understand a problem, don’t waste time working on it. However, try to remember what kind of problem it is so that you can be more prepared for that type of problem next time you take the test.
  4. Read each question carefully.
  5. For the SAT avoid random guessing because of the wrong answer point deduction policy.
  6. For the ACT make an educated guess because no points will be deducted for a wrong answer.
  7. Buy practice books from your local book store.
  8. Make sure to watch Youtube videos/hire a tutor for topics you don’t understand.
  9. Take on each section as its own test because each one has different qualities about it that will be challenging. This approach may make studying more approachable.
  10. Set time aside a few times a week to study for the ACT.
  11. Look at challenging math formulas two nights before the test.
  12. Do not study the night before the test, or otherwise relax and stay home instead of going out with friends.
  13. Do not look at the test as a chore but as something that will make you happier in the long run!
  14. Remember if testing is more challenging for you, talk to your college counselor about Test Optional colleges which may be a better option for you!
