Spotlight: Alexandria Lavelle

The Merion Mercy Field Hockey team had a great season this year.  Finishing the regular season with a league record of 9 wins, 2 losses, and one tie, as well as a District 1 Championship, the team is now on their way to States!  It was also named one of the top 20 teams in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey region.  We thought it would be fun to interview Alexandria Lavelle, a freshman on this extraordinary team, and see what it’s like to be on this team’s amazing journey!

Q: How does it feel to be a freshman on varsity?

A: Sometimes it is nerve-wracking playing against older girls, but everyone on the team has been so supportive and always looks out for me and each other. I know they always have my back.

Q: How is the team preparing for the big upcoming game?

A: We have practiced so hard all season long that we are just reviewing what we have learned throughout these last three months. We are working on our offensive and defensive corners and other game-like situations.

Q: What does it mean to you to be apart of the team that has a chance to win states?

A: It has been a great opportunity for me to be teammates with such fun and talented players. The coaches set goals for us in the beginning of the season. So far, we have accomplished two of our three goals. This weekend we are hoping to fulfill our third. Hard work and determination has gotten us to the final game, and we are hoping to be apart of Merion’s history.

Good luck to the MMA Field Hockey team!  GO GOLDEN BEARS!!!
