There have been mixed reactions to Warner Bros’ latest Harry Potter Inspired Movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I personally loved everything about the movie but I was interested in hearing someone’s opinion who did not love it as much as I did. I asked Ms. Smith a couple questions about the movie:

Q: What was your favorite “fantastic beast” and why?

A: I thought the little mole-like beast that stole all of the gold and jewelry was hysterical. I suppose I did not expect the beasts to have such personalities; then again, anything is possible in J.K. Rowling’s world.

Q:Did you think this movie is over-hyped? Why?

A: No, I do not think the movie was over-hyped.  I know that so many Harry Potter fans, like myself, were excited to see more movies based off of J.K. Rowling’s magical ideas.  I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Q: As a Potterhead, are you upset or happy with the movie ending? Did it make sense to you?

A: I think I had higher expectations for the movie because of J.K. Rowling’s reputation and dynamic story lines.  I thought the beginning of the movie was quite funny as we learned about the different fantastic beasts, but then suddenly, the tone of the movie became very dark and morbid.  I did not think the transition was executed as clearly as it could have been.

Q: Special effects played an important role in the movie, which effect mesmerized/intrigued you the most?

A: The movie takes place in New York City, and I loved seeing how the magical special effects transformed the city.  Not to give away the ending, but the character Creedance plays a special role towards the end of the movie, and I definitely thought the special effects as he tore through New York City were mesmerizing.
