As the new semester begins, Merion Mercy students are happy to welcome new additions to the Merion family. The Latin department welcomes back a friendly face, Mrs. Walker, who taught here at Merion in previous years. Earlier in the year, Mrs. Walker had stepped in for Dr. Bender, and so Mrs. Walker wasn’t a new face to most of the Latin students. Students seem to be adjusting smoothly to the Mrs. Walker and are excited to learn more as the year continues. We had the opportunity to sit down with Mrs. Walker and conduct a small interview.

First, we asked Mrs. Walker if anything had changed in the Latin department since she was last here. She replied by saying that the curriculum stays relatively the same. Adding that each teacher brings their own “individual gifts” and through those gifts they are able to “enhance” the curriculum in their own unique style. When asked “Are you excited about returning to MMA?”, Mrs. Walker gladly responded by saying, “I am ridiculously excited about returning to MMA!” Commenting that her transition back in has been “fantastic” and she’s “very happy to be here”! The students at Merion are excited and happy to be welcoming her back as well!

With the concluding question, we took the opportunity to ask Mrs. Walker why she decided to study and teach Latin. She replied with a very heartwarming and inspiring story, “I had a phenomenal experience with my Latin teacher here, as a student, and she inspired me so much. I just grew to love the language more and more, and I do believe that was because she imparted that love of the language. I decided to pursue it because I really loved that you could continue to learn more and more, there’s so much to be discovered, and I was just drawn to do it.” We can’t wait to see what Mrs. Walker will teach us, not only as students but also as sisters of mercy!
