On February 5, 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles shocked the world in a nail biter against the New England Patriots with a final score of 41-33.  Although they were nicknamed the “underdogs” by many, the Eagles proved that they are the “best of the best.” Despite losing their star quarterback, Carson Wentz, a few games before playoffs, the Eagles put in a tremendous amount of hard work and definitely earned the title of World Champions.  Throughout Eagles history, this is the first time they brought the coveted Lombardi Trophy back to Philadelphia. Backup quarterback, Nick Foles, certainly gave Philly fans something to cheer about, completing 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and throwing 3 touchdowns. As Vince Lombardi, the namesake of the Super Bowl trophy, once said, “Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.”  This was certainly exemplified by the Eagles’ performance this season.

This Super Bowl win brought a great sense of spirit and unity not only to the players, but also to the city of Philadelphia, and even the Merion community as well.  A few days after the Super Bowl, neighbors and strangers alike gathered side-by-side to join together in welcoming the team back home at the parade. Seeing the entire city filled with love and support for the same reason exuded such a heartwarming feeling to all.  The Eagles showed everyone that hard work and dedication do pay off in the end. They were the epitome of comebacks, of perseverance, and of loyalty. Super Bowl LII will forever be remembered and it is definitely one for the ages!
