Venom: Let There Be Carnage

8/10

In Venom: Let There Be Carnage we see more into the daily life and dynamics of Venom and Eddie Brock. They sort of have this routine that they follow and they have set rules for venom. Makes sense as they are hiding venom from the government. I loved the comedy aspect of this movie; Watching Venom and Eddie have arguments and fights. They are a real dynamic duo. The plot is pretty good as well as the action and fight scenes. You can really tell just how different Venom and Carnage are. While Venom and Eddie Brock have this sort of ‘together we are one dynamic, Cletus Cassidy and Carnage have a ‘takeover’ dynamic. You can really see the differences in the way they act and the way Eddie and Cletus are connected to their symbiotes. Overall I think this movie had a great amount of comedy and action. The only thing I would really change was the pacing. This movie would be way better if it were longer.  The story of Cletus Cassidy and Frances Barrison could have been. explained better. Also, the build-up to the big fight seemed a bit rushed. I feel like fans would have enjoyed it better if it were a bit longer.

Candyman

8/10

There is a lot to unpack about this movie. There are major plot twists and the storyline goes back to the original movie. I wouldn’t really classify it as a horror movie. I would say it’s more of a thriller. It is a bit gory so if you aren’t into that type of thing I wouldn’t recommend it.  If you can get past a bit of blood and rotting flesh I think you would really enjoy the complexity of this movie. The creator of the movie Jordan Peele really knows how to trick the viewers, create various plot twists and leave you questioning everything that has happened.  The story is a continuation of the original Candyman and it follows a story of an aspiring artist who becomes obsessed with the story of candyman and wants to show people different aspects of the story through his art. The movie also brings up underlying themes like gentrification, obsession, and corruption. The visuals and sound of this film were so detailed they really made the experience of watching so much better. For all the people who like scary movies there were some subtle jump scares, but nothing too crazy. I was skeptical at first because I’m not the biggest horror/thriller fan but it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be.  Overall, I think this is a really good movie to watch, I really enjoyed watching and the hidden plot holes and easter eggs make it really interesting.
