Take a Drive This Summer: Fun Destinations Are Only Hours Away!
Take a Drive This Summer: Fun Destinations, Only Hours Away!
Summer has finally arrived for the students and staffulty at Merion Mercy! After a long year of constant virtual days, staying home, and social distancing, we should all rediscover the outdoors. Here are a few interesting places in the Greater Philadelphia area that are perfect for fun-in-the-sun vacation memories.
Do you enjoy the outdoors, the beauty of nature, the sun in your eyes, and the pleasure of a nice fresh breeze? The Delaware Water Gap, located in the Pocono Mountains, is a wonderful place for an easy hike in the woods, a bike ride on the trails, and even canoeing down the river. Not an outdoorsy hiker? Spend a day at the beach, but don’t forget sunscreen! The Delaware Water Gap is also home to the two tallest waterfalls in Pennsylvania: the three-tiered Raymondskill Falls and Dingmans Falls. After a long day of enjoying and appreciating nature, you could retire to roasting s’mores fireside and listening to the wildlife around you.
Still want to get some fresh air, but prefer city life to camping? Make a visit to Love Park! In the “heart” of Center City Philadelphia, Love Park is home to the iconic Love statue. Close neighbors to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Franklin Institute, the plaza is a fantastic venue for photo ops, lunch dates, and even savoring a scoop of ice cream with your best friends. Less than a minute away stands Philadelphia’s City Hall, home to Dilworth Park. This summer, Dilworth will be hosting roller skating -by reservation- at the Rothman Orthopedics Roller Rink. After you finish your skating, sit down and have a meal, or enjoy the art of live music. You might even wander up the Parkway and enjoy the outdoor activities at The Oval. Center city has so much to offer for our summer fun.
We have all been through a challenging year of school at home and been largely stuck at home. The summer of 2021 will be ours to live life outdoors, in the sunlight, at the beach, the pool, the mountains, the city, or even our own backyards! See the links below for more information about the places mentioned and other fun destination options in our area.
The Ricordia staff wishes everyone in the Merion community a happy and healthy summer.
