Cookie season is here and the Girl Scouts are hard at work. Every season senior Brynn Wisniewski stays busy completing cookie orders from Merion students and faculty. Outside of school she works booths all over: her two main spots being Fine Wine and Good Spirits in Rockledge. Brynn’s efforts have resulted in her outstanding average sales of 800 boxes in a given year. This season, Brynn’s last cookie season as a Girl Scout, she set a goal to sell 1,200 boxes! Even though the cookie season is very exciting, it is only a fraction of what the Girl Scouts do every year. I interviewed Brynn to learn more about her experiences and responsibilities as a Girl Scout.
Brynn first joined Girl Scouts in Kindergarten and has been dedicated to her troop for 13 years now. Over the years, Brynn has earned a bronze and silver award and she is currently working towards her gold, the highest award. According to the Girl Scouts of the USA the Gold Award, “Is the mark of the truly remarkable” and shows the scout’s commitment to their education and community. The Merion community has no doubt that she will reach this goal.
Brynn’s fondest memories were made in the summer at Cano Mosey Wood, a resident camp in the Poconos. One year, Brynn backpacked 40 miles on the Appalachian Trail in five days and grew super close with Girl Scouts from other parts of the country. She also loved her troop’s trip to Washington D.C. where spent quality time with her friends for life, and had the opportunity to visit and experience many amazing places.
Brynn says that she 100% attributes her love of camping and traveling to her Girl Scout experiences. As an experienced Girl Scout, Brynn is passing down her knowledge and skills. At her last Camporee, she taught younger troops camp songs by the bonfire and led prayer before meals. When asked what being a Girl Scout means to her Brynn expresses her gratitude for the community she has been exposed to. Brynn says that being a Girl Scout means growing up in an environment that strives to empower girls to become their true selves. While doing so, they support the communities around them to the best of their ability. Girl Scouts has allowed Brynn to meet some of her closest friends and develop new interests and passions.
The Ricordia Staff is appreciative of Brynn for her and her accomplishments and wish her luck at her goals of 1,200 cookies and the Gold Award!
