The Merion Mercy community spent Mission Week 2025 promoting the theme of mapping the mission. The funds raised from mapping the mission during the week’s events will go to the St. Francis Inn, the Community Center at Visitation, and Mercy Immersion Trips.
During the week, each day focused on a different critical concern of the Sisters of Mercy, starting with earth on Monday. The students all received blue ribbons and were given the opportunity to work on ecobricking during lunch codes. On Tuesday, the focus was immigration. Yellow ribbons were handed out during homeroom and there was a prayer service at the end of all lunch codes. Wednesday brought the arrival of green ribbons symbolizing nonviolence and an invitation for students to participate in yoga as a means of encouraging calm, self-awareness, and compassion. An anti-racism community quilt, composed of index cards with anti-racism messages written on them contributed by each student was assembled on Thursday, The ribbons handed out were red. To close out the week with the final concern of women and women’s issues, students received purple ribbons and contributed to a period-poverty awareness drive in the Lyceum and a class color dress down day. Friday also brought exciting activities for the students, starting with a pep rally in the afternoon. The pep rally included a video about the critical concern of women and the announcement of the raffle winners.
Students appreciated the effort put into Mission Week and thought that the topics were well-represented by each day’s activities. “I liked how they gave us ribbons because they raised awareness for the different topics,” said freshman Sara McCarthy. The most anticipated event of the week arrived on Friday evening, the Mission Week Mixer. It lasted two and half hours and brought many students-decked out in their class colors- and their invited guests to the gym, Lyceum, and dining commons for a night of fun. “I thought it was good because we got a bigger turnout than we have in previous years,” said sophomore Hazel Boczkowski about the mixer.
All in all, Mission Week 2025 was a huge success and went above and beyond to represent the causes Merion Mercy Academy stands for and supports.
