Black Women in History

Black Women in History

Black History Month is a momentous time to learn about the many struggles Black people have faced, but black history should be taught all the time. I took the time to research amazing Black women who have overcome racism and made fundamental changes for the betterment of the world. Valerie Thomas is a scientist and inventor whose invention, the illusion transmitter, has helped NASA make breakthroughs. The illusion transmitter can turn video images into 3D images. Her technology is still used today to help us understand our solar system. Valerie held many roles at NASA; her last and final part was as Associate Chief of Space Science Data Operations. Valerie has overcome the obstacles of segregation and a lack of educational opportunities. This year, I am encouraging everyone to educate themselves and read up on excellent black history first. Our history should be taught and never forgotten; we, too, can make positive changes to the world as Valerie did.
